Career pathway explorer: subjects to careers

Explore school streams, degree routes, specialisations and career options through an interactive career pathway tree.

Start with subjects. Investigate the actual route.

A subject family can lead to several degrees, specialisations and careers. The branches below are exploration links; they do not establish admission eligibility. Check the current programme, required subjects, applicant category and professional recognition before making a commitment.

  1. Choose a starting field, or open a study route directly in the interactive explorer.
  2. Inspect the work and requirements for at least two possible careers.
  3. Try a small project and bring specific questions to a counsellor.

Science with mathematics

Explore mathematical and physical systems, computing, quantitative research, design and wider cross-stream options. A subject combination opens particular entry routes; it does not define your identity.

Check required subjects program by program. Biology requirements still apply to clinical routes; choosing mathematics does not automatically satisfy them. For NRIs, check citizenship and applicant category, school-qualification equivalence, study-mode availability, exam-center access, and destination-country recognition separately.

Science with biology

Explore living systems, health, environmental work and laboratory science, alongside design, computing and other routes with suitable eligibility.

Medicine, nursing, allied health and agriculture use different entry and professional rules. Biology alone is not a blanket eligibility statement. For NRIs, check citizenship and applicant category, school-qualification equivalence, study-mode availability, exam-center access, and destination-country recognition separately.

Commerce and business subjects

Explore accounting, finance, economics, organizations and enterprise, with bridges into law, design, computing and social sciences.

Commerce is useful preparation rather than a universal prerequisite for business careers. Mathematics requirements vary across economics and quantitative programs. For NRIs, check citizenship and applicant category, school-qualification equivalence, study-mode availability, exam-center access, and destination-country recognition separately.

Humanities and social sciences

Explore people, societies, communication, law, education and design, with quantitative and computing bridges where the specific route allows them.

Humanities does not close every technical pathway: specific BCA and data programs differ from engineering degrees. Clinical psychology needs separate recognized training. For NRIs, check citizenship and applicant category, school-qualification equivalence, study-mode availability, exam-center access, and destination-country recognition separately.

Vocational and interdisciplinary routes

Explore applied training, apprenticeships, diplomas and combinations of disciplines. These routes can support work, further study or a staged transition when formal conditions are met.

Trade certification, diplomas and degrees are different awards. Lateral entry is conditional and institution-specific, not an automatic upgrade. For NRIs, check citizenship and applicant category, school-qualification equivalence, study-mode availability, exam-center access, and destination-country recognition separately.

Keep another possibility in view

Vocational, interdisciplinary and bridge routes can be useful alternatives, but credit transfer and lateral entry need confirmation from the receiving institution. For study abroad, check qualification equivalence and recognition in the destination country.
