Write down the exact qualification being sold
Before researching any badge, capture the full award title, awarding institution, teaching provider, campus, mode of study and intended entry year. These may not all be the same organisation. Ask who issues the final certificate and transcript. Keep the provider’s written answer with the offer. A logo on a brochure is a claim to investigate, not proof that the qualification meets the requirement you care about. This becomes particularly important with branch campuses, partner teaching centres and online delivery.
Ask which question each recognition answers
Institutional status, programme approval, accreditation, professional registration and acceptance for further study are distinct checks. UGC’s degree FAQs explain that degree-awarding and equivalence questions have specific scopes. NBA states that it accredits selected technical programmes rather than an institution as a whole. Therefore, an accreditation claim about one programme should not be transferred automatically to another course at the same university. Write the question beside the evidence so you can see what remains unanswered.
Search the official record, including its dates
Navigate to the relevant authority’s own register rather than relying only on a screenshot supplied by a recruiter. Match the spelling, campus, award and mode carefully. For NBA, read the programme and accreditation period in the official search result; a historical entry can still appear. If the exact programme is missing or the dates do not cover the period being claimed, ask both the institution and the authority for clarification. A discrepancy is a reason to investigate, not an invitation to guess either approval or fraud.
A worked example: one college, two different claims
Suppose an invented college advertises “NBA accredited” beside all its engineering courses. The register identifies a particular programme and period, but the course you want has a different title. Your record should say “institution’s claim found; target programme not yet confirmed”. Ask for the relevant official entry for that programme. You should not mark every course approved because the college has one accredited programme, and you should not declare the entire college invalid merely because one accreditation question remains open.
Check the use you will make of the qualification
A qualification can have a legitimate awarding body and still fail to meet a particular employer, postgraduate course or overseas regulator’s conditions. If you intend to practise a regulated profession, identify the destination authority and ask about the exact route. If you plan further study, ask the receiving institution. Separate academic recognition from immigration and permission to work. For distance or online study in India, investigate the current mode- and programme-specific official position rather than assuming the campus course’s status transfers automatically.
- Exact award and awarding body verified.
- Teaching location, partner and delivery mode recorded.
- Relevant official register and current period checked.
- Professional or further-study acceptance investigated separately.
- Unresolved questions retained with written replies.
Keep a verification folder before paying
Save the official pages or documents with dates, the written offer and any clarification. Recheck close to enrolment if the approval period or intake has changed. Ask for refund and withdrawal terms in writing before making a commitment that is difficult to reverse. This record is especially useful when a family compares several countries or providers at once. It should establish what you actually verified and what you did not. If an important status question remains unresolved, pause that commitment and seek appropriate qualified guidance.
Next actions
- Create one identity record for the exact course, campus and mode.
- Check the relevant official records and match their dates.
- Resolve recognition needed for your intended career or further study before committing.
